Abstract:
In recent years, video games have become a popular means of intertainment among various social classes especially adolescents and teenagers. It has turned into a lucrative industry due its large audiences. At large-scale, this entertaining medium is an effective factor in the culture and personality of public opinions; thus, certain and clear policy-making need to be established by the officials to bring about desirable effects for the society and the culture .
This research analyzes content policy-making of producing video games in Islamic Republic of Iran. This qualitative research arranged semistructured interviews with 19 media and cultural experts and managers, well-known Iranian game-producers and the officials in video games in Islamic Republic of Iran and sought their views about the research topic.
Using literature review and the extracted points from interviews and executing Philip Mayring’s content analysis, a general viewpoint was reached for the content policy-making of producing video games in Islamic
Republic of Iran.
In this research, we dealt with the position of content policy-making of producing video games, effective factors in content policy-making involving these types of games and the challenges ahead. Moreover, based on the opinions of experts, generating a roadmap and cultural engineering of video games are the steps to be taken first before dealing with policymaking because pathology of policy-making and regulating politics are very important. Lack of attention to the topic of game studies in research centers
and universities is a point that can be one of the important resources of
content policy-making of producing video games and of assistance to the
producers of these types of games. The experts emphasized the special
support of producing local-content games or content that can help the media stream of the country and government.
